The Story of How the First Dates Went

If you are wondering how the first couple of dates went for Mandy & Aaron, check out this mock interview to see how they went down.

Q: Now that we know how you met, tell us about the first date. Who asked who?

Aaron: I asked Mandy. After a couple days of talking, I suggested that we go on a picnic.

Mandy: Which is one of my favorite things, but he didn’t know that.

Aaron: It just seemed like a good idea to me and now picnics have become one of our favorite date activities.

Q: Sounds like it went off without a hitch.

Aaron: Not exactly. I almost poisoned Mandy with spoiled cheese.

Mandy: It was some pretty gross cheese. The moment I tried it I spit it out!
(Laughs)

Aaron: You volunteered to taste it.

Mandy: I did. (Laughs) It made a memory for sure!

Aaron: All I knew was that the cheese smelled differently that morning than it had the night before when I bought it, but I didn’t know if it was supposed to be like that. Plot twist: it wasn’t.

Q: Where did this take place?

Mandy: Lacy Park in San Marino. We’ve gone on a few dates there and it’s where we had our engagement photo shoot.

Q: What else did you do?

Aaron: I had promised to teach Mandy how to fly my drone, so I brought that along and she brought her camera. I gave her some techniques on both, then we took to the skies for a bit.

Mandy: I had never flown a drone before and I enjoyed learning to fly it. After the picnic, we both didn’t want the date to end, so I invited him back to my house to continue our conversation. Aaron met my Mom and the two of us sat and talked for a while. It felt so comfortable and easy, like we had known each other for years.

Q: Is that when you made plans for your second date?

Mandy: Aaron actually asked me out on our second date before we had our first one!

Aaron: (Laughs). Yup. The following weekend, I was working at Cine Gear Expo with a booth for The Valley Film Festival. I was going to be hosting a podcast during the day and I wanted to show off my skills. If she was going to go, she had to register in advance.

Q: So how did that go?

Mandy: I had never been to the Paramount lot, so I was looking forward to meeting him there. My favorite part of that day was watching him interview people for his podcast. He made it seem effortless and flow naturally with each guest. I was very impressed. (Smiles)

Aaron: I wasn’t sure how long Mandy was going to stay, but she ended up being there with me until the expo closed and we packed up my gear.

Mandy: At that point, we were both hungry and went to Bob’s Big Boy in Burbank.

Aaron: I was afraid we were going to get kicked out.

Q: Why did you think that?

Mandy: Aaron kept making me laugh. I hadn’t laughed that hard in a long time. And I loved laughing with him and feeling like we were 16 again!

Aaron: The more that Mandy laughed, the more I laughed and the louder we got. At a certain point, another patron came up to our table. I thought he was going to tell us that we were being too loud, but he had a huge a smile on his face and said, “Whatever is going on between you two… keep it up!”

Mandy: Our waitress also loved us and said we were her favorite table that evening. It made our day! It was so special to have two people giving us positive remarks.

Aaron: I just remember stopping myself at one point so that I could commit the moment to memory. It was then, in the midst of the laughing and ease of conversation that I knew I was going to marry Mandy.

Q: You didn’t tell her that then, did you?

Aaron: No. I think that I admitted that I was falling for her, but I specifically kept the full thought to myself.

Mandy: I just remember looking into his eyes, seeing his face in endearment towards me, and the thought that came to my mind so naturally was, “I love you.” I kept that to myself, too.
